Ghouls are undead, nocturnal humanoid creatures who feast upon the corpses of the dead.
Ghouls are pale, have sharp, canine-like teeth, and are usually dressed in tatters, which often causes them to be confused with Zombies, amongst whom they can often be found. They behave in a feral manner, crouching and running like wild animals, and unlike Zombies, they are cunning and move very quickly. While they prefer the taste of rotting flesh, they harbor a hatred of the living, and will usually attack the living on sight. They generally do not communicate except through snarls and gibbering.
Ghouls are known to use their filthy claws and teeth to inflict damage upon the living, but their most disturbing feature is their ability to cause the living to fall asleep (as per the SLEEP spell).
Ghouls dislike light. It does not harm them, but they avoid it when possible, and will do what they can to snuff out light sources. They fear fire, both for the light it creates and the pain that burning can cause.

Ghouls do not use magik.
How ghouls come to exist, and whether they were once human or Elf or are an entirely unique race, is currently unknown to Xarian scholars.
